Certificate of Registration (COR)

The Certificate of Registration (COR) is an official document issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) that proves your business is registered for tax purposes.
In Filipino MSME terms: ito yung “papel ng BIR na nagsasabing legal kang nagnenegosyo” at dapat kang mag-file at magbayad ng tamang buwis.

The COR lists your tax types, filing deadlines, and the obligations you must follow as a taxpayer.

Why the COR Matters

For Filipino MSMEs, the COR is essential because it:

  • Legalizes your business with the BIR
  • Allows you to issue official receipts or invoices
  • Shows your tax obligations (e.g., Percentage Tax, Income Tax, VAT)
  • Is required for permits, bank accounts, and corporate clients
  • Helps you avoid penalties for unregistered operations

Without a COR, you cannot legally operate or issue receipts — and you risk penalties during inspections.

What the COR Contains

  • Registered Business Name
  • Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)
  • Business Address
  • Business Activity (e.g., retail, services, food)
  • Tax Types (Percentage Tax, VAT, Income Tax, Withholding Tax)
  • Filing Frequency (monthly, quarterly, annual)
  • Registration Date

It must be displayed visibly at your place of business.
